Plight of brahmins in India

Plight of brahmins in India

Brahmins are no longer in villages as they have been already driven out of villages. More over their population is just 1% in most of the states in India. The only people who are practicing casteism and keeping dalits away from streets, graveyards are BCs. Brahmins have nothing to do with this practice. It is easy to implicate Brahmins for no fault of theirs. The reasons are: they are soft (also soft targets), they silently absorb whatever is said against them or done against them without raising voice, physically weak, neither do they have any inclination nor do they indulge in goondaism, rowdism. Hence everyone tries to bring them into picture eventhough they would not be there in the picture. Brahmins have migrated to cities long ago expecting security to personal life than any thing else. After the reservation policy they are sure of not getting any government jobs. Hence either they go to foreign countries or settle in some private jobs. At least the I.T. sector is giving them some hopes. Right now the plight of Brahmins is “odinar odinar valkzhayin orathirke thorathapattanar” (meaning they are running pillar to post just to live in peace). For god’s sake it is better to leave Brahmins alone and ask the BCs to change their mindset vis-à-vis dalits. Hence it is atrocious and brutal to cite Brahmins for continuation of discrimination in India, particularly against dalits.

Coming to reservation policy, when merit and competency are bypassed what we get are incompetent candidates having no merit. There is a proverb in Telugu (Kanakapu simhasanamuna sunakamunu koorchopedithe aa sunakamu istharakulu erukunnathi) which means that instead of taking deserving candidates, if non-competent persons are taken for different posts then that would lead to counterproductive results. If the government departments are still running smoothly it is because some of one or two old folks belonging to Brahmin community are still there. Once they also retire then we can see the pinnacle of corruption, nepotism, under performance and all sorts of troubles will come out.

If we are not hypocrats and have guts then we should generate a data base and see the demography of criminals and their records in India. The entire history would show that almost all the criminals belong to Non-brahmin category. We have reservation in education, jobs and most of other areas. Now BC and SCs are economically sound. Even after reservation and after getting all benefits and education if the crime rate is still high even among the educated ones then the problem lies somewhere else. Most probably it is in their genes. We can change the policies, environment and provide all sorts of benefits but it is not so easy to change genes, genome and genetics because DNA is a highly conserved material. Articles showing differences in the genome have been published in the Nature and Nature Biotechnology journal in 1998, 1999. The only way that we can see a change in genome is to go for cross breeding where there would be hybrids. But that would lead to further chaotic conditions. More castes would sprout out. In fact next goondaism and sadism would be to corner people belonging to different castes to go for inter caste marriages. If people do it voluntarily then it is better not to stop them. For this the girl or boy should attain at least 22 years of age. If any force is brought in then we are no longer in a democracy but in dictatorship or in a chaotic military rule.

If a person is not taken for a post because he or she belongs to a particular caste, creed, religion, gender, etc. then it is wrong. But if an incompetent person is taken for a post under reservation policy then it becomes criminal injustice. Equality means treating all as equals and reservation does not assure equality. It only leads to reverse discrimination that too followed by governments. We normally see discrimination practiced by some sections of the society but the governments should not practice discrimination whether it is forward discrimination or reverse discrimination.

In a democracy it is by the people, to the people and for the people that representatives are elected. The party with a majority of elected representatives forms the government and formulates the policies. To touch constitution in India we need two-thirds of majority. None of the parties are dared to touch the reservation policy as they would loose the vote banks. If 95% of the Indian population belong to different categories under which they get reservation benefits then it is very difficult to bring a change in the constitution by making any amendments as this 95% as vote-bank would decide the fate of MPs, MLAs who in turn would form the governments.

Nowadays casteism is practiced more pronouncedly among convert Christians. A Nadar Christian won’t marry a dalit Christian. Similarly upper caste Christians have separated mass for prayers and a separate mass for dalit Christians.

As already mentioned Brahmins are soft targets and we can blame them for anything with false claims. If people have let them ask BCs and other upper castes (not Brahmins) not to follow casteism or other practices and to remind them Brahmins are no longer there in the picture. The question remaining is how long are we going to falsely implicate for all sorts of problems in the society even though they are not in the picture (after all they are 1% population in most of the states in India) and make them eternally the scapegoats. Those whom it may concern please have some consideration and leave them alone.
